A diverse and widespread flowering plant from the orchid family, the Orchidaceae are beautiful flowers that bloom colourfully and fragrantly. Aside from the Asteraceae, the orchids are one of the two largest families of flowering plants. It has a notably great number of genera and species.
With over 25,000 species and about 800 genera, this flower is among the most favorite flowers of all time. They are often seen in the gardens, rainforests and everywhere they can grow into due to its easy adaptability. The flower’s stunningly hewed petals and vibrant colors make it beautiful to see. Some orchids have 30 inches petals and weigh tonnes.

The flower show has been part of the institution’s history for 35 years, and it is conducted to mark the birth anniversary of the founder, J N Tata. The plants on display are grown in-house and they are displayed from the door of the main building till the founder’s statue on the campus. This time, around 15 varieties of plants will be showcased, ranging from phlox, zinnia, coral zinnia, celosia, and hollyhocks to different types of marigold, candytuft, nasturtium, among others. Scientists solve mystery of when flowers originated London: A team of scientists from Britain and China has claimed to have solved what Charles Darwin called the "abominable mystery" of when flowers originated. Flowering plants likely originated between 149 and 256 million years ago, said the study published in the journal New Phytologist.
